Abstract: This article highlights the influence of health status on the choice of the volume of working hours in Cameroon based on data from the fourth Cameroonian Household Survey (ECAM IV) conducted by the National Institute of Cameroon Statistics during 2014. Health is measured by a subjective indicator of self-assessment of health status. The structure of the distribution of working hours by sector of employment led to the choice of a Tobit model. The results suggest that individuals in poor health (relative to those who are healthy) lose an average of 10.87 hours of work. The fact that health status is not a relevant variable in explaining the working hour’s choices of Cameroonians contrasts with the results of other studies which consider health status as an exogenous variable. This article shows that the higher the income from activities, the less time people spend in the labour market. This observation is more noticeable in paid employment, where we observe that the degree of negative influence of income generated by the activity is more significant, at the 1% threshold against a 10% threshold in self-employment. This result reflects the superiority of the substitution effect over the income effect.

Abstract: This paper assesses the impact of road infrastructure investments on the structural competitiveness of Burkina Faso's economy over the period 1980 to 2015. The methodology adopted presents, on the one hand, the endogenous growth theory as a theoretical reference framework and, on the other hand, exposes the direct and indirect effects of public infrastructure spending on the performance of the economy. After conducting preliminary tests, an Error Correction Model (ECM) and the results reveal that investment in road infrastructure positively and significantly affects the structural competitiveness of the country's economy. However, this impact varies over time. Indeed, the elasticity of structural competitiveness with respect to road investments is 0.06 in the short term and 0.32 in the long term. In view of these results, the economic policy implication that emerges is that an increase in road infrastructure investment is a policy of increasing the structural competitiveness of the country's economy.

Abstract: This paper looks into the impacts trade sanctions have on a country, in particular the economic and financial impacts. The question raised is whether trade sanctions indeed have impact of reducing the economic welfare of a country and if so to what capability? Two cases of trade sanctions have been examined: UN sanctions on Iraq and US sanctions in Iran. The analysis suggests that the despite affecting the economy of the target country, the extent to which it impacts in damaging the economic and financial resources depends upon the type and severity of the sanction. In Iraq, the complete comprehensive multilateral trade sanction crippled its economy and financial pushing it into a state of grave fiscal and humanitarian crisis. In Iran, the unilateral trade sanctions imposed by US in the form of trade barriers, has impacted by the country but economic and financial growth continues with Iran’s other trading partners.
